This beautiful Victorian Writing Bureau Desk would make for a wonderfully addition to a period home living room or office decor. Circa 1880.
The front of the bureau has a two smaller upper drawers, with two larger lower graduating drawers. There is a raised lip surrounding the drawers of the bureau.
The fall front can be dropped, exposing a warm and rich oak desk, which can be held open by the two smooth pull out supports.
The interior has a bank of 5 different sized drawers, with 6 pigeon holes above, and a central door, perfect for storing documents, papers, books, or memorabilia. The interior of the desk has a sliding hidden drawer, with a wonderful carved handle.
The drawers have excellent matching batwing brackets with swan neck drop handles.
The bureau stands proudly on 4 solid bracket feet, with a raised lower boarder surrounding the bureau.
This gorgeous Writing bureau displays timeless Victorian era features that are sure to impress in the home setting.
Overall, this antique writing Bureau is in great condition, with signs of use and veneer wear (as photographed), as to be expected from an item with years of age. Both the pull out slat handles, and the bottom left drawer handle have been replaced (see photographs). There are historical signs of woodworm to the backside that have been professionally treated by the previous owner (see photograph). There is a split to the left side of the bureau, from wood warping over time (see photograph). There is no key present for the front of the bureau key holes. The central hidden drawer and small left interior drawer is stiff to slide.
