George I Walnut Bureau Featherbanded
George I Walnut Bureau Featherbanded
A stunning George I quality figured walnut bureau, having a quality figured walnut fall with herringbone crossbanding.
Opening to reveal a fitted interior consisting of 4 walnut drawers, a hinged compartment, a sliding interior drawer, 8 pigeon holes and 2 sliding walls.
Graduating drawers with early examples of dovetail joints and beautiful brass handles, two short drawers above two long drawers. Standing on 4 solid elegantly carved legs to.
A handsome original 18th century example displaying a fabulous age related patination.
Please note there is no key, and the locks have been historically made unusable.
Overall an excellent antique walnut bureau with slight signs of use and small paint splats, as to be expected from an item of this age. There are areas where the veneer has pealed, and a piece of wood to the front and back corner is missing (as photographed). There are slight signs of historical woodworm, that have been professionally treated by the previous owner.
